Kathryn M. “Kathy” Jurgens, loving mother and grandmother, age 85 years, lifetime area resident of Cairo, N.Y. passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2023 with her daughter and her companion by her side.
Kathy was born on May 6, 1937, in Catskill, N.Y. and is the daughter of the late Lester H. and Eva M. (Armstrong) Story.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her beloved brother Robert L. Story and his wife Dorothy R. “Dotty” Story, and many other family members and dear friends who went on before her.
Survivors include her loving daughter Melinda Tokle (Sean), her son Bruce Jurgens (Lauren), grandchildren Ian Metzger and Cooper and Alivia Jurgens, and her long time companion Francis Fuchs and his family.
During Kathy’s lifetime, she was a graduate of Cairo Central School, Class of 1955 and also of The Mildred Elley Business School in Albany, N.Y.
She was a devoted member and trustee of The Cairo United Methodist Church in Cairo, N.Y., and also a trustee and Secretary Treasurer for the Cairo Cemetery Association for many years, of which she was dedicated to. She was a past board member for The Cairo Durham School Board, a life member of The Cairo Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, a member of The Eastern Star for over sixty years of which she was a faithful member that she held many distinguished positions in.
She was employed by Central Hudson Gas and Electric Company from 1956-1983, then for The Town of Cairo Water and Sewer until her retirement.
Kathy was dedicated to the organizations that she was active in and always gave her all to anything and everything that she was involved with. She had superb organizational skills. She enjoyed bird watching, tending to her flowers, traveling and watching Fox News and QVC She was an avid NASCAR and Duke Basketball fan and loved watching both with her grandson Ian. Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends. Her beautiful smile will be missed sorely.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at Richards Funeral Home of the Mid-Hudson Valley, Inc., 29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y., 12413 on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. The Mountain Star Oasis Chapter – 273 Order of The Eastern Star will hold services in her memory at 4:00 P.M. and The Cairo Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary will hold services in her memory at 5:30 P.M., at the funeral home the same day.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Richards Funeral Home of the Mid- Hudson Valley, Inc., 29 Bross Street, Cairo, N.Y., 12413, with Pastor Saebuek Lee of The Cairo United Methodist Church , Cairo, N.Y. officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot of The Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, N.Y.
