Trust offers winter birding kits | | – Leader-Telegram

Want to attract winter birds to your yard? There’s an opportunity to pick up an enticement early next month.
The Door County Land Trust is offering free birdseed ornament kits during its For the Birds event. No registration is required for the event at Sister Bay Village Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Deecmber 3.
The organization said bird watching spiked in popularity during the pandemic, and several recent studies suggest watching birds in your area can reduce stress.
“Just like the canary in the coal mine, birds are some of the best indicators of the health of the landscape around us,” said Emily Wood, the trust’s executive director. “Door County is a critical flyway that hosts a spectacular diversity of bird species—which means we have a lot of work to do to keep these special places protected.”
Each kit contains instructions, ingredients and the supplies to make a birdseed ornament in the shape of a Northern Cardinal. The kits also offer winter birding tips.
