Gilbert E. Wyland, 79, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 13, 2022. Born on July 29, 1943, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Carl and Dorothy (Miller) Wyland. On March 9, 1968, at the Milesburg Baptist Church, he married Linda L. Deitrich, who survives at home.
Gilbert was a member of the Milesburg Baptist Church for many years. He served as a Deacon, on Church Council and on the Council of Churches. He was currently a member of the Zion Community Church. He held a strong Christian belief and knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator for Bellefonte Lime, retiring after 20 years of service. After retirement, he worked for Joel Confer’s Auto in State College as a Shuttle Van Driver.
Gilbert loved to ride his motorcycle in his younger days. He enjoyed camping, attending Grange Fair, bird watching, especially Cardinals, and watching Gunsmoke on TV. He liked to mow his grass when he was able and when he wasn’t able to do it any longer, he would give strict instructions on how to mow HIS grass. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved getting down on the floor to play with them.
Gilbert is survived by his wife; two children: Carl E. Wyland and his wife, Lena, of Howard and Tina L. McClellan of Milesburg; two grandchildren: Clint McClellan and Amanda McCloskey and her husband, Josh, and two great grandchildren: Sophie and Logan.
He is also survived by his five sisters: Carlene Williams and her husband, Ralph, of Zion, Barbara Meyers and her husband, Harry, of Bellefonte, Sarah Russell of Bellefonte, Janet Boone and her husband, Aaron “Boonie”, of Julian, and Kathie Smead and her husband, Rick, of Bellefonte.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 10-12 noon, at the Zion Community Church in Zion. Funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Burial will be private at Centre County Memorial Park in College Twp.
