MARQUETTE, MI – Betty Jane Hartman, 86, of Marquette, Michigan, passed away at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba, Michigan, on October 29th, 2022.
Born on December 26th, 1935, Betty was a Christmas miracle and the only daughter of Alexander and Katri (Huskari) Hautala.
Betty lived her formative years in Newberry and graduated high school in 1954.
Shortly after high school, Betty married, Howard Hartman and together they lived in Germfask, while raising their family.
While living in Germfask, Betty was a teacher’s aid for the Manistique School District. After Howard’s passing in 1978, Betty moved to Marquette and worked for the Boy Scouts of America for many years. Betty enjoyed spending her time bird watching, camping, swimming, attending church at Messiah Lutheran Church and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Diane (Tom) Brennan of Marquette, Stephen and Val Hartman of Manistique, and Paul Hartman of Shingleton; grandchildren, Stephanie (Brody) Carlson, David Hartman, Brad Brennan, Danielle (Tyler) Haynes, Kim Brennan, Chad (Amanda) Hartman, and Sara McGregor; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Taylor, Stephen, Hannah, Ella, Luke, and Morgan.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Katri Hautala; her husband, Howard Hartman and neighbor friend, Richard Lintula.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, November 26th, beginning at 10:00 am, until the time of service at 11:00 am. Pastor Chad Mager will officiate. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room. Interment will be made in Lakefield Cemetery in McMillan.
