The Wildcat Hills Nature Center south of Gering is hosting a morning-long bird watching event tomorrow for all to enjoy. The Big Sit runs from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the deck at the Nature Center.
Watchable Wildlife biologists Oliva Darugna says the name The Big Sit is fitting because participants in the free event will be “hanging out on the deck, relaxing in our chairs, drinking our coffee, having snacks, and looking at and counting the birds.”
Darugna says the counting must be done in a 17-foot diameter circle, so the participants basically stay in their chairs the whole time, look at birds and enjoying the scenery and nature.
The Wildcat Hills Nature Center has binoculars for anyone to use for free and while participation is free and open to the public, a park entry permit is still required.
