An article in the Saturday edition of The Daily Star incorrectly stated that the two precincts which will vote at the new Baileyville polling location north of Robert are precincts 120 and 128.
The correct precincts for that location are 120 and 120A.
The new Baileyville polling location is 48022 Hwy. 445, Robert, directly adjacent to the subdivision Coves of the Highland, on land that was donated to the parish by a local businessperson.
The old site, Baileyville Fire Station, is part of Husser Fire Department and is actively staffed every day, said Husser Fire Captain Ethan Dunn.
Those who love watching birds but wish they knew their names will have a chance to learn.
A four-week class starts Wednesday, Sept. 21, 8-11 a.m. at Ponchatoula Area Rec District, 19030 Ponchatoula Parks Drive.
This class is designed for the beginning bird watcher. It will consist of four weekly sessions.
In the first session, students will be introduced to binoculars and field guides and basic information about birdwatching.
The following three weeks, the class will go on bird walks around the property and identify as many birds as possible. Bird walks may last up to two hours at a very leisurely pace, so mobility is required.
After the bird walks, students will review what they’ve seen and discuss tips and tricks for identifying birds by sight and sound.
During the last class, instructor Jane Patterson will offer students resources and information on where and how to use their new birding skills.
Binoculars and field guides will be provided during the class sessions. Class is taught by Jane Patterson, president and education chair for the Baton Rouge Audubon Society, who has been teaching birding classes since 2007.
Jane is a resident of Ponchatoula.
For registration infomation, see www.braudubon.org under Events. Fee is $25.
Hammond Downtown Development District will hold a meeting tonight to receive public feedback on last month’s Hot August Night event.
DDD residents, business owners, property owners, Hot August Night participants and the general public are invited to attend.
The hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Hammond City Council Chambers, 312 E. Charles St.
