Robert L. Smith, 91, of Amboy, passed away at 9:05 A.M., Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022 at Century Villa Health Care, Greentown, IN. Bob was born in Otisco, IN, on June 15, 1931, the son of Paul and Minnie Montgomery Smith. He married Arlene Fenstermaker on September 19, 1954 and she survives.
Bob was an U. S. Army Veteran and worked on Line Maintenance for RCA in Marion. Bob was a member of the Church of Hope. An outdoor enthusiast, Bob enjoyed gardening and bird watching. He appreciated the beauty of antiques, collecting old farm equipment and loved taking his grandchildren on tractor rides. Bob was an avid Colts football fan and was well-regarded in woodworking.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Arlene, is a daughter, LaShawn (Rob) McClain and sons Jerry (Sheila) Smith and Kevin (Julie) Smith; brothers Jim Smith and Dave (Trena) Smith; a sister Hazel Spaulding; seven grandchildren Andrew Smith, Matthew Smith, Brittany (Mike) Horner, Briana (Zach) Tuterow, Anthony (Suzie) Smith, Sarah (Trent) Barlow and Chase Smith and eight great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Chuck Smith and Tom Smith and a sister Edna Straham.
A service celebrating the life of Robert L. Smith will be held at 4:00 P.M., Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022 at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 N. Main St., Amboy with Pastor Jim McDowell officiating. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M., Thursday at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home. . Burial will be in the Park Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home to the Guardian Angel Hospice or the Church of Hope.
