Powell, Cathy – The Chattanoogan


Cathy Powell, 75, of Chattanooga, passed away on September 4, 2022, peacefully in her sleep.

She was born and raised in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to the late John Owen and Gertrude Ring. Cathy graduated with a bachelor’s degree in interior design from Mississippi State College for Women. She was an interior designer as a young adult and retired from Dillard’s in 2013. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and antiquing.  

Cathy is survived by her husband Lantz Powell, and children Lantz Jr. (Kathleen), James (Amy), Owen (Danielle), and one granddaughter, Gibson Gertrude Lyn Powell as well as her brothers John Owen Ring, Charles O’Neill Ring. 

She was also preceded in death by her brother Thomas Patrick Ring. 

A Celebration of Life will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Brainerd from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7. 

The funeral service will be held in Vicksburg, Ms. on Sept. 17.

A woman, 36, died in a single-vehicle wreck in the 5300 block of Fairview Road on Saturday morning. Chattanooga Police responded at 7:30 a.m. to the crash.
