The birds may change, but the setting stays the same.
It’s time for the final installment of Birding on the Green for the 2022 season.
The joint venture between the Dickinson County Nature Center and Brooks Golf is hosted at the Audobon-certified golf course once a month from May through September.
The last one for this year is scheduled for 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12.
“They say the early bird catches the worm and we get started at 7 a.m. so be ready to hop on a golf cart and we’ll get out and go,” said naturalist Britney Snell.
While it’s always a bit sad when the season comes to a close, Snell said it’s been a fantastic year as they’ve sighted an average of more than 30 bird species per outing.
“We have had an awesome year. The weather has been great for almost every one and we’re excited to wrap up to season enjoying some beautiful scenery at the golf course,” Snell said. “Our lead bird expert will help us ID through sight and sound all the birds of our neck of the woods. It’s a lot of fun for people of all ages.”
It’s anybody’s guess what specific species participants will see each month, and that’s part of the excitement.
“It will be interesting to see what birds are out there and what direction they’re flying with their different migratory patterns,” said community relations coordinator Jackie Jerge. “And it’s always great partnering with Brooks, helping them with their Audubon certification every year. They’re so generous with letting us use the golf carts and enjoying all the different habitats on their land.”
Fine tune those binoculars and set the alarm one more time for Birding on the Green.
