1937 – 2022
Marilyn Susanne "Sue" (Gibson) Slaugenhaupt, 84, of Washington Township, died in her home, Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022. Born Nov. 6, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Jessie Gibson, of Leechburg. Sue graduated from Leechburg High School in 1955, and soon after met her perfect counterpart, Burl. They married in 1956 and built a home on Pine Run Road where they raised their family. Sue and Burl shared a love of travel, including camping trips, cross-country adventures in their motor home and trips abroad. They also found joy in square dancing as members of the Western Wheelers and Dealers. Sue lived her life as a woman of deep faith. She was an active member of Vandergrift Presbyterian Church, where she shared her musical gifts as an accomplished church organist and choir director. Additionally, Sue served on the board of the Leechburg Area Museum and Historical Society. Sue was a devoted wife and loving and supportive mother. She was generous with her time and resources. An avid reader, lifelong learner and lover of animals, you would often find her with a good book and a cup of tea, with her pet companions, most recently Lewis and Cookie, at her feet. Sue welcomed family and friends into her home and hosted many gatherings. She had a deep appreciation for nature, evident in her love of bird watching, gardening and spending time visiting on the front porch or around the campfire. As the heart of Lone Oak Farm, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Burl Slaugenhaupt; stepmother, Musa Gibson; in-laws, Norman and Martha Slaugenhaupt; brother-in-law, Dale Slaugenhaupt; and sisters-in-law, Margie Slaugenhaupt and Pauline Agee.
