John B. Evans Obituary – Foster's Daily Democrat

John B. Evans, of Portsmouth, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022.
John was a cute adorable Englishman. He had one granddaughter, Keely Ehnstrom, whom he loved with every ounce of his being.
John was born in October, 1936 at home in Marchwood, England to Cyril and Hilda (nee Jones) Evans both of Wales. John had one brother Michael G. Evans. He served in the British Army and after his service he became a welder, “the best in the world”, and retired from ABB at the age of 62.
John married Marilyn (nee O’Connor) Hilgreen from Albany, New York. Marilyn was living in England after the death of her first husband. In the mid 1970’s, they made the decision to move their 3 children to Portsmouth, NH. Son, Matthew Hilgreen of York, Maine and daughters, Bridget Hines (Richard Hines) of York, Maine, and Megan Ehnstrom (Jim Ehnstrom) of Portsmouth, parents of Keely. John embraced and was embraced by his U.S. in-laws, nieces, nephews, and all their children.
Following the death of his wife, John found companionship with Margaret (Maggie) (nee Chandler) O’Connor. For over 30+ years, John loved traveling, sharing meals and spending time with her; the couple began and ended each day with a telephone call.
He enjoyed bird watching, English soccer (Southampton Saints) and American football (New England Patriots). John delighted in hosting an annual lobster feast with his close and extended family. After retirement, John took up the game of golf with his buddies from work. And, if you ever were at a party with John, you might have seen him do a headstand against a wall and drink a pint of beer…up! An amazing and unusual talent.
He will be missed by many!
